Spartans Qualify for State Tournament

GREAT BARRINGTON, Mass. – Manny Brown scored 28 points Friday to lead the Monument Mountain boys basketball team to an 83-57 win over Easthampton that punched the Spartans’ ticket for the Division 4 State Tournament.
 
Monument Mountain took control early with a 29-point first quarter that saw Brown score 13 points and Dom Calautti add eight on his way to a 14-point night.
 
The Eagles cut into an 18-point deficit in the second half, but Jackson Nelson hit a 3-pointer at the half-time buzzer to send Monument Mountain into the locker room with a 45-34 lead.
 
The Spartans then outscored the visitors, 23-7, in the third quarter, which saw Griffin McElroy (12 points) hit three 3-pointers.
 
Isaiah Keefner scored 16 points in the win.
 
Monument Mountain (10-1), ranked third in the latest MIAA in-season power rankings, hosts No. 7 South Hadley on Tuesday night.
