SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. – Griffin McElroy scored all nine of his team’s points in the fourth quarter to help the Monument Mountain boys basketball team Monday earn a 47-44 win over South Hadley in an early season battle of unbeaten teams.

McElroy hit a 3-pointer with 2 minutes, 45 seconds on the clock to give the Spartans a 43-40 lead.

“Griff then went 4-for-4 from the foul line in the last 45 seconds to keep the lead,” Monument Mountain coach Randy Koldys said. “He finished with a game-high 19 points.”

Isaiah Keefner scored nine points and blocked a potential game-tying 3-pointer at the buzzer.

Manny Brown scored nine points, and Dominic Calautti added eight.

“Really proud of our perseverance, especially in the second half to find a way to win,” Koldys said. “This experience will definitely make us better.”

Monument Mountain (4-0) plays its first home game of the winter on Saturday when it hosts Clinton out of Central Mass at 3 p.m.
