Monument Mountain Boys Respond in State Tourney Opener
GREAT BARRINGTON, Mass. – Griffin McElroy hit five 3-pointers, and the Monument Mountain boys basketball team bounced back from its first loss of the season with a 94-54 win over Uxbridge in the first round of the Division 4 State Tournament.
McElroy finished with 19 points. Khalil Carlson had a game-high 20, and Manny Brown and Sebastian Guete-Ramirez added 15 apiece for the Spartans (21-1), who started their state tournament run with an emphatic win after falling in last Saturday’s Western Massachusetts Class B title game.
“All in all, we made 9 3s in the first half, led by Griffin McElroy's five 3-pointers (19 1st half points),” Monument Mountain coach Randy Koldys said. “That was part of a season high 12 3s for Monument.”
“I am so proud of how these guys bounced back after last Saturday. They were so ready to play.”
Third-seeded Monument Mountain moves on to the tournament’s Round of 16, where it awaits the winner of Saturday’s game between No. 14 Nantucket and No. 19 Carver.
