Gidarakos Scores 23 as Spartans Top Wahconah
GREAT BARRINGTON, Mass. -- Caden Gidarakos scored a career-high 23 points Friday to lead the Monument Mountain boys basketball team to a 74-66 win over Wahconah.
Playing its first home game in 39 days, Monument Mountain made the most of the opportunity early, going up by as many as 18 in the first half behind 13 points from Gidarkaos.
"We knew that [Wahconah coach Dustin] Belcher would not let his team roll over that they were going to come storming out the gates in the second half," Monument Mountain coach Randy Koldys said. "They did and got the lead down to 8 but we answered when we had to. Kyle Wellenkamp played a great all-around game."
Wellenkamp scored 16, including going 5-for-6 at the foul line in an eight-point fourth quarter.
Devon Hanavan scored nine, and Khalil Carlson added seven in the win.
Brody Calvert scored a game-high 28, and Lucas Pickard added 13 for Wahconah (7-3), which goes to Easthampton on Monday.
Monument Mountain (5-2) takes a three-game winning streak into Monday's home game against Baystate Academy.
