Monument Mountain Boys Earn Spot in Western Mass Tourney
BRATTLEBORO, Vt. -- The Monument Mountain boys basketball team Saturday defeated Brattleboro, 71-53, to punch its ticket for the Western Massachusetts Division 3 tournament.
The Spartans won for the third time in four games and improved to 10-5 this season.
At 5-1 in the Berkshire County South, the Spartans also have a fair chance of finishing first or second in their league, which would have put them in the post-season as well.
With Monument Mountain qualifying on Saturday, the county now has six boys basketball teams -- including Taconic, Wahconah, Drury, Mount Greylock and Lenox -- who have assured themselves places in their respective sectional tourneys.
Two more teams -- Hoosac Valley and McCann Tech -- are sitting on nine wins entering the last full week of the regular season.
The Spartans will look to improve on their seed when they go to Cheshire to face Hoosac Valley on Wednesday.
