This week’s Athletes of the Week are two big reasons their teams are enjoying success in the post-season.

Drury’s Alli Brassard picked up a key split in the deciding game of the best-of-7 Berkshire County Championship match against McCann Tech on Friday at Ken’s Bowl in Pittsfield.

Brassard, who had the second-highest per-game average among girls and 14th best average in the county overall at 172.

But it was a 4-7-9-10 spare that proved to be the highlight of the year -- so far -- for the Blue Devils, who go for their sixth straight state championship on Saturday at Greylock Bowl and Golf in North Adams.

She could not recall pulling off a similar feat in a pressure situation.

“I tend to strike when I need to, but splits and things like that, you’re automatically thinking, ‘There’s no chance,’ “ Brassard said. “And you do it, and you pick it up, and you think, ‘There is a chance.’ “

Patrick Storie and the Mount Greylock boys basketball team have a chance on Wednesday to earn a berth in the Western Massachusetts Division 3 title game.

A couple of months ago, the Mounties looked like anything but a title contender after a 2-4 start.

But Storie was not on the floor in those first six games.

Since his return from an injury suffered during Mount Greylock’s Western Mass finalist football run, the school’s boys basketball team is 15-1, including two tournament wins.

“It’s been huge having him back,” Mount Greylock junior Sam Dils said after Thursday’s quarter-final win. “He's just a guy who brings energy. It's the little things like the charges down at this end. On offense, he's aggressive taking it to the hole.

“It's a team effort, and every guy played their part. Everyone's getting it done.”

Storie, who averages about 12 points per game, scored nine in the first-round win over Narragansett and 11 with four assists in Thursday’s quarter-final against Southwick.
