WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — Sean McCormack scored 17 points to lead the Mount Greylock boys basketball team on Tuesday as it cruised past Frontier, 64-42, in the first round of Western Mass playoffs.

It was a balanced attack for the Mounties all night long as Pat Storie added 16, and Zach Ronnow chipped in with 15.

The hometown fans got their money’s worth in a packed house at the Mountie Dome. With a fast start to the game, Mount Greylock (15-6) was able to jump out to a 14-4 lead early in the first quarter setting the mood for their fans all night long.

“We have a great home crowd, and you certainly want to keep them in it,” said coach Thistle. “Fortunately we were able to maintain the lead and extend it as we went into the second half.”

For Frontier (10-11), Justin Farrick scored 17 points, and Myles Freeman added 10.

This loss ends Frontier’s run in the Western Mass Tournament early, after a buzzer beating win to get it there.

As the game moved on you were able to see the confidence of Mount Greylock build both offensively and defensively. The Mounies were able to force turnovers and turn them into baskets the other way all game long. Frontier was really settling for threes early in the game and Mount Greylock capitalized on that. When Frontier started getting the rim they made a small run, but Mount Greylock’s defense proved to be too strong as they started the second quarter just as they did the first getting off to a quick 12-0 run and taking a 35-22 lead into the half.

Mount Greylock continued to control the game in the second half with great guard play from Sam Dils along with others stepping up and scoring to close the game out.

“As the year has progressed guys like Sean McCormack have come on,” Thistle said. “Zach and Pat have been very consistent all year long. I thought also a guy like Sam Dils, who had a very important eight [points] and to have him take care of the ball — that’s important."

Mount Greylock will look to keep the momentum going as they travel to Palmer Friday night.
