Tony Marra Leads Wahconah Unified Team in Road Win
WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. -- The Wahconah Unified Basketball team closed on a 6-0 run on Tuesday afternoon to earn a 52-49 win at Mount Greylock.
Tony Marra scored 16 points to lead Wahconah in a back-and-forth contest that left the visitors with a 3-1 advantage in the Fall 2 season series going into Monday's season finale in Dalton.
Sam Iovieno scored 14 points, and Brock Prett added 10 for Wahconah.
Dillon Marra scored just six but started the decisive run by sinking a shot from 7 feet with 3 minutes left in the fourth quarter to make it a two-point game at 49-48.
Tony Marra then stole the ball and went the distance for a transition basket to give Wahconah a 50-49 lead with 2:30 left to play.
Wahconah's continued to clamp down, holding Mount Greylock scorless over the last 3:20.
Iovieno gave his team some insurance by scoring in the post in transition to provide the final margin.
Devika Sharma once again led Mount Greylock and all scorers with 34 points.
Sharma really caught fire at the start of the second quarter, scoring all eight points in an 8-0 Mounties run that erased a five-point deficit and gave the hosts a 19-16 lead.
Wahconah battled back to take a 24-21 lead on a Tony Marra transition basket.
But Sharma scored two more, once on an assist from Aidan Barnes, around a Cal Prett bucket with an assist from Hayden Robb, to send the teams into half-time with Waahconay up, 26-25.
In the third quarter, Wahconah threatened to make it a runaway with an 8-2 run to go ahead, 38-33. But Barnes (11 points) stopped that run, and the teams went to the final break with Wahconah ahead, 42-37.
Sharma scored four straight to start the fourth, making it a one-point game, and she and Barnes keyed a 6-0 run moments later to give Mount Greylock a 47-44 advantage.
After Iovieno scored in the post to get Wahconah within one, Sharma scored her teams final points with a bucket over Tony Marra to make it 49-46, setting the stage for Wahconah's closing run.
