Lampron, Polumbo Earn Spring's First Weekly Honors
It's been a slow and rainy start for a lot of high school sports teams this spring, with more rainouts than games played.
As often is the case, lacrosse teams are getting the jump on their counterparts in other sports in the category "games played," and this week's iBerkshires.com/Southwestern Vermont Health Care Athletes of the Week have jumped to the head of the class.
Sarah Polumbo has led the Mount Greylock girls lacrosse team to a 3-1 start, including a two-game winning streak going into Monday afternoon's game against Pope Francis.
She leads the Mounties with 18 goals and one assist this spring. Perhaps as importantly, she has been a force on draw controls.
In Friday's road game at Granby, a rematch of last year's Central/Western Massachusetts Division 2 semi-final, Polumbo gave Mount Greylock the majority of possessions by winning 13 draws -- three more than the Rams won as a team.
Devin Lampron has been on a tear for the Wahconah boys.
A year after helping the program win its first Central/Western Mass title, Lampron has led Wahconah to a 3-0 start with a team-best 25 goals.
On Saturday, he was also the team's top facillitator, picking up six assists to go with his seven goals in a 22-8 win at South Hadley.
Wahconah stays on the road this week, playing at Amherst and Belchertown before finally making its home debut a week from Tuesday against Agawam.
