Hoosac Valley Changes Boys Basketball Coaches Mid-Season

CHESHIRE, Mass. -- After one and a half seasons at the helm of the Hoosac Valley boys basketball team, it appears that David Harte's days at the school have come to an end.

 

Hoosac Valley Principal Colleen Byrd confirmed in an email Wednesday afternoon that Ben Raimer has been appointed the interim head coach of the program.

 

Byrd declined to address questions about the reason for Harte's departure.

 

"[W]e do not discuss personnel issues," she wrote in a brief reply to an email and telephone message seeking information.

 

Harte went won 15 of 34 games for a .441 winning percentage, including a 9-5 record through his final game, a win last week in Bennington, Vt., against Mount Anthony.

 

Raimer coached the team in Tuesday night's loss at Pittsfield High School, a 73-49 loss for the Hurricanes.

 

According to the school's website, Raimer teaches history at Hoosac Valley. He is a graduate of McCann Tech, where he broke the boys basketball scoring mark in 2010.

 

He takes over a team that is one win away from qualifying for the Western Massachusetts tournament for the first time since 2017.

 

The Hurricanes have five games left in the regular season, starting Friday at home against Wahconah.
