McCann Tech's Towler, Hoosac Valley's Stubbs Earn Weekly Honors
This week’s iBerkshires.com/Adams Community Bank Athletes of the Week led their respective basketball teams to 3-0 weeks, which make for a happy holiday indeed for the McCann Tech girls and Hoosac Valley boys.
In North Adams, the Hornets’ girls are 4-1 after Friday’s league road victory at Easthampton.
Sophomore Grace Towler led the way in that game with 12 points -- capping a week in which she averaged 11.7 points per game.
On the season, she is averaging a little more than 10 ppg, second on the team behind classmate Kaylee Tatro (12.2 ppg).
The Hornets have one more game in 2019, on Friday at home against Pope Francis.
At Hoosac Valley, junior Izaha Stubbs saved his best for last on Saturday night, scoring 15 points on five 3-pointers in the fourth quarter, helping the ‘Canes outscore visiting Mount Greylock, 27-26, over the last eight minutes and 64-58 in the game.
“I knew Izaha was ready for one of these games,” Hoosac Valley coach Dave Harte said. “I’ve been telling him, ‘When are you going to hit five or six of them?’ Because he’s really been in a shooting slump -- not a playing slump, but a shooting slump.
“I knew it was coming. I’m glad it was tonight because we really, really had to win this game.”
The Hurricanes (5-1) have made some hay in their home gym, going 4-1 in Cheshire. Now, they hit the road for their next five games starting on Thursday night at Frontier.
Stubbs, who had 25 points in Saturday’s win, is averaging nearly 17 points per game.
