CHESHIRE, Mass. -- Hoosac Valley High School Tuesday announced the hiring of David Harte, Jr., to be the school’s varsity boys basketball coach.

Harte has a long history of playing and coaching experience, serving for many years as the director of the Pittsfield Boys and Girls Club.

“Coach Harte is a 'student of the game' who has devoted his life to the study of the game of basketball,” Hoosac Valley Athletic Director Molly Meczywor said. “He is passionate about helping student-athletes understand the X's and O's at an advanced level as well as motivating, understanding and communicating with his players to see the optimum growth and success.

“Such success can be seen through his involvement with the Taconic Boys' Varsity Program last year. He brings with him an enthusiastic, positive approach. We are very proud he will be joining our coaching staff as well as building on the success and pride of Hoosac athletics and our local communities.”

Currently, Harte is a case manager at Soldier On in Pittsfield.
