It was a busy week -- and a productive one -- or this week's iBerkshires.com/Southwestern Vermont Health Care Athletes of the Week.

After a nearly two-week break without games due to cancellations, the McCann Tech boys basketball team returned to the court on Wednesday and picked up right where they left off.

Fueled by sophomore Jacob Howland, the Hornets won three games in four days to continue a six-game winning streak that started way back on Dec. 10.

Howland, who missed his freshman season entirely with the McCann Tech program on a COVID-19 hiatus, is averaging nearly 15 points per game this winter.

In this week's three wins, he scored 15, 17 and a game-high 16 in a one-point overtime road win at Mount Everett.

The week ahead is nearly as busy for Howland and his Hornet teammates as they play three games in five nights, starting with Monday's contest at Smith Vocational.

No one played more games -- or won more games -- than the Hoosac Valley girls basketball team this week.

The Hurricanes went undefeated through a stretch of four games in five days -- including a day game following a night game.

Senior Averie McGrath is the top scorer for 10-1 Hoosac Valley, accounting for 18 points per game.

McGrath finished in double figures in all four of this week's wins, including 26 points against Hampshire Regional and 10 in Thursday's showdown against county rival Wahconah.

The Hurricanes (10-1) get another date with a foe from the old Berkshire County League on Wednesday when they visit Pittsfield, the first of three games in four nights that include a rematch at Amherst, which handed Hoosac Valley its only loss this winter.

The iBerkshires.com Athlete of the Week is sponsored by Southwestern Vermont Health Care.
