PITTSFIELD, Mass. — The Taconic boys basketball team Thursday got revenge against Wahconah with a dominating 62-33 win at home.

After a low scoring affair the last time these two met, Taconic (12-4) made sure they wouldn’t repeat the past.

Riding the emotion of a pregame ceremony to honor senior Isaac Percy, who scored his 1,000th point the last time out at Drury, Taconic got off to a hot start with a 9-0 run, forcing Wahconah into an early timeout.

Eric Montgomery knocked down an early shot and assisted the next two baskets. Percy continued his hot streak with 15 points in the quarter and a game-high 33 points. The tempo of the game clearly favored Taconic, and it was able to set that tone for the rest of the game. When it wasn’t scoring off transition baskets, it was able to swing the ball around inside and out to open shooters for the entire game. Taconic finished the first quarter up, 26-10, a hole Wahconah (9-3) could not crawl out of.

“We always want to play with energy, and I think we wanted to redeem ourselves from the last time we played and at least give a full effort and keep our focus and I thought we did that well in the first half,” Taconic coach Bill Heaphy said. “We played bad last time, and Wahconah played better.”

The second quarter continued with more of the same. Wahconah had no answers for the way Taconic played on both sides of the ball, getting defensive stops with pressure and the long athleticism of Mohammed Sanogo in the paint. It was able to cruise the half with a 44-19 lead which was more points they scored all of the last time these two met.

The leading scorer for Wahconah was Kevin Huban with 10 points, eight of which came from the free throw line, just showing how impactful this Taconic defense really was all game long.

“Our game we are ready to guard anyone,” Heaphy said. “We needed to do it to [Scott] McGuire at Drury. I think its a team effort and we are always up for the challenge knowing we have to play tough no matter who it is.”

In the second half, Taconic was on cruise control as it was able to ride that electric first half all the way to the end of the game holding the visitors to less than 20 points.

Taconic will host D1 Longmeadow on Saturday as it inches closer to post-season play.

Wahconah has another challenging opponent in Monument Mountain waiting for it in Great Barrington on Saturday.
