PITTSFIELD, Mass. -- After trailing by as many as 23 in the third quarter, the Wahconah boys basketball team battled back to make it a 12-point early in the third.

But Taconic senior Quincy Davis was there to throw a dagger into any comeback hopes.

Davis knocked down a 3-pointer to gave is team a 57-42 lead, and Taconic never looked back in earning a 67-54 win, its 14th in a row and 15th on the season.

Quentin Gittens scored 16 points to lead four Taconic players in double figures. Mohammed Sanogo had a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds to go along with five blocks and three dunks. Isaac Percy and Davis each scored 10 -- combining for four 3-pointers between them.

But no triple all night was as big as the one from Davis that stopped an 11-2 Taconic run.

“He’s done that all year,” Taconic coach Bill Heaphy said. “He has a knack for doing that. It’s a great shot for him.”

Taconic got big shots from a lot of places early to jump out to a 23-7 lead.

Percy hit a pair of 3-pointers in the first quarter, and seniors Davis and Gittens accounted for nine first-quarter points after joining their classmates in the Senior Night festivities.

Another senior, Christian Womble, hit a 3 on an assist from Percy to open the second quarter and give Taconic a 16-point bulge.

Another Womble 3 pushed the lead to 19 at 34-15, and Taconic had a 17-point advantage at half-time.

Taconic came out of the locker room with a 6-0 run that ended with Gittens scoring in transition to give his team its biggest margin of the night, 44-21.

But from there, Wahconah started to chip away.

Tommy Burris scored eight of his 15 points in the third quarter, including one to start Wahconah’s best run of the night, the 11-2 stretch that spanned the third and fourth.

Kevin Huban (game-high 22 points) knocked down a pair of foul shots at the end of the third to get Wahconah within 17, and he opened the fourth with two more free throws.

“We’ve got to get more disciplined with [fouls],” Heaphy said. “When we trap, we’re not trying to steal it in the trap. We’re just trying to bother them and make them make a tough play.”

After Robert McCown scored on an assist from Sanogo at the other end, Huban hit a 3-pointer and then a field goal to draw Wahconah within 12 at 54-42.

That’s when Davis delivered his second 3 of the night to give Taconic some momentum and ignite a 9-1 spurt that pushed the lead back to 20 when Gittens scored a pair from the line to make it 63-43 with 4:19 on the clock.

Taconic (15-3) is off until it hosts Drury next Monday.

Wahconah (13-4) goes to Lenox on Thursday.
