Wahconah Boys Win on Senior Night
DALTON, Mass. -- Senior Kevin Boino led the Wahconah boys basketball team Wednesday evening to a 63-50 win over Taconic on Senior Night.
Boino finished the game with 25 points, 11 which came in the first quarter as Wahconah took an early 18-11 lead.
Wahconah moved to ball well in the second quarter and had a lot of good looks at the basket; it outscored Taconic, 17-8, to take a 35-19 lead at half.
"We did a nice job working for the shots we wanted to get," Wahconah coach Dustin Belcher said. "We did a lot better offensively tonight, so I'm hoping that builds into the tournament and we can carry that going forward."
Wahconah's defense was able to create Taconic turnovers in second half, allowing it to push the ball up the court and execute offensively. The hosts held a 20-point lead after the third quarter (49-29).
With 1:20 remaining in the game, Belcher looked to his bench to finish the game and to recognize the seniors who were currently on the court.
"This program has come a long way in their four years here," Belcher said. "A lot of these guys are three- and four-year varsity players, I think tonight meant an awful lot to them to play here one more time infront of the home crowd.
"It's been a great group, it's a large senior class, I'm very happy for them that they came away with a W tonight."
Collin Parrot finished with 12 points and Cole Morrison had 11 for Wahconah.
Taconic, who has also qualified for the tournament will wait with the other Berkshire County teams for the seedlings to come out Saturday afternoon.
For the Braves, Charles Davis finished with 13 points and Jake McNeice had eight.
