Behre Leads Mount Everett Boys in Gene Wein Consolation Game
NORTH ADAMS, Mass. -- Christian Behre went 7-for-8 from the foul line in the fourth quarter Tuesday to help the Mount Everett boys basketball team earn its first win of the season in a back-and-forth game against Duggan Academy in the consolation round of the Gene Wein Holiday Tournament at Drury High School.
Behre finished with a team-high 13 points, leading three Eagles in double figures.
The game started with Mount Everett’s defense as the story. The Eagles held Duggan scoreless in the first quarter and built an 11-0 lead on Cavan Brady’s 3-pointer to open the second.
But Duggan roared back with a 9-0 run to get within two, and it later got within a point before settling for a three-point deficit, 18-15, at half-time.
Duggan started the third quarter with a 10-0 run to go ahead by seven, but Mount Everett answered with an 8-0 spurt of its own -- all the offense coming from Dan Litchfield, who scored twice in transition and hit a 3-pointer to make it 26-25.
From there the teams traded baskets until midway through the fourth, when the Eagles mounted an 8-0 run to take a 42-36 lead with 1:01 left. Behre scored five from the line during that stretch, which ended in a Brady drive along the baseline.
Mount Everett (1-4) looks to stay in the win column on Tuesday when it takes on Monument Mountain at Lenox in the South County Tournament.
