Taconic's Zuccalo, Mount Everett's Warren Recognized
A swimmer and a sniper earned iBerkshires.com/Southwestern Vermont Health Care Athlete of the Week honors for their performances so far this winter.
Mount Everett junior Sean Warren had a big night on Friday, scoring 17 points to help the Eagles win their second home game to open the season.
Characteristically, he had three 3-pointers in the win over Ludlow.
For the season, Warren is averaging 3.5 triples per game, and his 14.3 points per game is tied for the team lead with 1,000-point scorer Michael Ullrich.
Warren had six 3s and 20 points to start the 2024 portion of Mount Everett’s schedule with a 26-point win over Berkshire County rival Lenox on Tuesday.
The Eagles (5-3) face another test in the Tri-County North Division on Tuesday when they travel to face Westfield Tech.
The Taconic swim team also travels on Tuesday – a short trip over Route 20 to face New Lebanon, which has been competing as a coed team all winter.
That means senior Mia Zuccalo and a short-handed Taconic girls squad will get a chance to team up with the Thunder’s boys team.
Zuccalo has been unbeatable in the pool so far this winter, taking first in a pair of individual events in each of the Thunder’s first five dual meets.
That includes five straight wins in the 100 breaststroke, an event in which she placed fifth at last year’s Central/Western Massachusetts Championships.
This winter, Zuccalo already has hit the sectional qualifying mark in the 100-yard breaststroke, back on Dec. 14 in a dual meet against Pittsfield.
