A bowler and a backstop are this week's iBerkshires.com/Southwestern Vermont Medical Center Athletes of the Week.

McCann Tech senior Aleasia Yeaton has been one of the top performers in the Berkshire County High School Bowling League week in and week out this winter.

On Friday at Ken's Bowl, she led the Hornets to a needed 3-0 victory over rival Drury to get McCann over the .500 mark with one week left in the regular season.

Yeaton rolled a 461 series that was best among the girls and third-best among all the competitors at Friday's competition.

For the season, she is the only girl in the league -- and one of just four bowlers overall -- to average 200 or more per game.

She also owns the league's third-best game this season, a 278 that stands as best among the girls. And her 486 two-game series back in December still stands as the best among girls in the league by a 35-pin margin.

This Friday afternoon at Ken's, fifth-place McCann Tech wraps up the regular season against Mount Greylock.

While basketball players from Taconic and Wahconah were grabbing headlines this week by scoring their 1,000th points in impressive fashion, a Taconic student who plays hockey for Wahconah was making his own statement.

Freshman Antonio Scalise made 19 saves for the cooperative team to earn a 5-1 win at the Boys and Girls Club as Wahconah secured a berth in the Western Massachusetts tournament.

Wahconah already had one of the top keepers in Western Mass, Jan. 6 AOTW Jake Risley, but the team was dealth a curve when he went down with a midseason case of the flu that has ravaged many county high school sports teams this winter.

Scalise stepped in to fill the void and has proved very much equal to the task.

"I give him all the respect in the world," Wahcoah tri-captain Mike Cullett said of Scalise. "He's a freshman, and I remember as a freshman I was scared out of my mind going out on the ice.

"I give him props for everything. He's coming into a big role on a team that's playing pretty hot right now. Jake -- everyone knows he's one of the best goalies around. And [Scalise] has stepped into those shoes perfectly. I couldn't be happier for the kid."
