NORTH ADAMS, Mass. -- Christian Montoya and Shane Fuller helped lead the McCann Tech boys basketball team to a 65-60 win over Franklin Tech Tuesday Evening.

Montoya put up 23 points, and Fuller, who injured his hand at the end of the second quarter came back out and finished with 17 for the Hornets.

Franklin Tech started the game in a box and one on Fuller, in attempt to shut him down; they limited him to only three points in the first half, but this left the wings open where Montoya put up shots all night.

"It was difficult, but we've worked on that offense," McCann coach Mike Nycorchuck said. "We kind of embrace when other teams play that against us because we have kids who can shoot and step up in his place."

Franklin Tech held a one point lead at half 27-26.

McCann came out in the third quarter and went on a 6-0 run with less than three minutes remaining to take a 38-33 lead, but Franklin Tech brought the score within one with two consecutive baskets.

With four seconds left on the clock Montoya hit a 3 to end the third quarter ahead 47-41.

"It's nice, we haven't played any close games until our last two games," Nycorchuck said. "Tonight being such a close game to a team that beat us by 24 points the first time around was just incredible.

"I just notice that every single guy on the team is just into it and I think that's what you need to be successful coming into tournament play."

The fourth quarter brought foul trouble for both teams, keeping the score within close range, but McCann held onto the lead throughout and was able to hold it for the win.

Rahmer Vincent finished with 12 points for the Hornets and Dante Cellana finished with eight.

McCann will finish out the week playing a game every day; tomorrow afternoon they travel to Pioneer Valley for a 4:00 p.m. start.
