Drury Boys Rally Past Lee, Stay Unbeaten
NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — Hayden Bird scored 23 points to help give Drury a come-from-behind win over Lee Monday night, 56-51.
Bird had nine in the fourth quarter, including the game tying 3-pointer with a minute left in the game.
Reece Racette chipped in with 12 points of his own for the Blue Devils (6-0), and Alex Heck had seven, including two big buckets late in the fourth quarter.
For Lee (2-3), Ben Harding had 15, and both Josh Sampson and Matt Reynolds had 11.
It was Lee’s third loss of the season after leading by nine in the first half.
It was a tale of two halves for Lee, which scored 35 points in the first half giving them the nine-point lead. But in the second, the Wildcats were held to 16 points. Hayden Bird hit a big shot with 4 minutes, 52 seconds in the third quarter while drawing the foul after the play. Drury then went on to score nine straight points, giving them the lead 40-38.
Drury was able to come from behind late in the fourth with big plays from both Heck and Bird.
“We talk about it before every game rebounding, turnovers, and making foul shots,” Drury coach Jack Racette said. "Late in the game we got two big rebounds from Heck, and Bird made foul shots.
Drury will put its undefeated record on the line against Monument Mountain Thursday night at home. Lee will travel to play St Mary’s Wednesday.
