Puleri, Carlson Named Athletes of the Week
Two South County shooting stars make the iBerkshires.com/Southwestern Vermont Health Care Athlete of the Week roster this week.
It was not the best week for the Lee girls basketball team, but Emma Puleri continues to show why she is one of the best players in her league.
Puleri is averaging 14 points per game for 6-3 Lee.
This week, she had 16 in a win over Pope Francis and 10 in a loss to 13-0 Division 4 Easthampton.
Earlier this month, she earned accolades from another D5 coach after a narrow road loss for Lee.
"Having Emma will always give [Lee] a chance," Drury coach Ian Downey said after their game. "I thought she carried them throughout the game and really made us focus in on her in the second half.”
The Wildcats have a busy week ahead after Sunday's road win at Pope Francis. Lee Tuesday continues a stretch of five games in seven days when it hosts Mount Everett, a team it beat in Sheffield in the season opener back in December.
After starting the season 2-2, the Monument Mountain boys have won five of their last six, including a pair of home wins last week.
Khalil Carlson is a big reason why. The sophomore is averaging 19 points per game. He had a team-high 18 in Wednesday's two-point win at home against South Hadley. Two days later, he helped the Spartans complete a home-and-home sweep by scoring 21 at the Tigers.
Monument Mountain has a tall order this week, a rematch on Monday against Hoosac Valley, which earned a one-point win over the Spartans in Cheshire earlier this season.
