WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. -- The Pittsfield boys basketball team defeated Mount Greylock, 78-62, Wednesday evening at Mount
Greylock High School.
The Generals, coming off a loss to Lenox on Monday night, came out with much more intensity tonight according to coach Steve Ray. They look a 41-25 lead going into half-time.
"We had an off night the other night against Lenox," Ray said. "Tonight we were committed from the opening tip to come out with more defensive intensity, which seemed to pay off in that first half."
In the third quarter, Greylock was able to cut the lead down to 12 after Ian Brink and Patrick Storie hit shots from outside, but Pittsfield continued to pressure the Mounties and was able to hold its lead.
Pittsfield found itself in foul trouble in the fourth, sending the Mounties to line, but it wasn't enough for them to take over as Pittsfield continued to hit its shots.
Emmett Shepard for the Mounties had a game high of 22 points, Brink finished with 10, and both Jake Benzinger and Zach Ronnow had 8.
"This was a good team we played tonight," Ray said. "Our job was to try to deny the three's, but we didn't do a very good job on number 23 [Shepard].
"Our goal was to make sure they didn't start launching three's on us because they're very capable of that and we had to have a guy fronting Benzinger all the time and have help from behind."
Aside from Shepard; the Pittsfield defense was able to hold Greylock's outside shooting to a minimum, securing its fifth win this season.
For Pittsfield, Anthony Jones finished with 18 points, Chad Shade and Scott Steinman each had 12, and Louis Higuera had 10.
Pittsfield (5-2) hosts Taconic Friday evening at 7 p.m. and Mount Greylock (5-2) travels to McCann Tech Saturday for a 7 p.m. tip off.
