WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. -- The Mount Greylock boys basketball team dialed up its defense to earn a 71-50 non-league win over McCann Tech on Tuesday night in the Mountie Dome.
The Hornets (3-1) led by 10 points at one point of the first half and trailed by just one, 32-31, at half-time.
"McCann Tech is very well coached, and we knew they'd come in and play us tough," Mount Greylock coach Bob Thistle said. "They had six 3s in the first half. We needed to do a better job of getting out on their guards.
"We played better defense in the second half and pushed the ball in transition."
Mount Greylock (4-0) also asserted itself in the paint, where Ian Brink and Michael McCormack scored 16 and 15 points, respectively.
Eric Hirsch led all scorers with 19, and Emmett Shepard finished with 12 for the Mounties.
Colin Racette scored 17 to lead McCann, which got 16 (12 on 3-pointers) from Shane Fuller and 10 from Cristian Montoya.
Mount Greylock hosts Drury on Friday night while McCann travels to play St. Mary.
