NORTH ADAMS, Mass. -– The Drury boys basketball team had a hard-fought game against Greenfield ending with a competitive 68-59 loss.

“Our experience showed,” Drury coach Jack Racette said. “We turned the ball over too much, that was the difference in the game.”

Dante Dillard led the Blue Devils 22 points followed by Myles Beauchamp with 14 and Sam Mporman with 13.

In the first quarter, Beauchamp led the team with six points from a three-point shot followed by a free throw and then a layup later in the quarter.

Moorman was right behind with five points as Drury took a 15-12 lead.

Right after however, Greenfield struck back with a commanding storm of three layups and two 3-point shots to shoot them up to 23 points.

The Devils came back with a reverse layup from Dillard and a great layup from Moorman on an assist from Connor Hinkell.

Greenfield came back harder with another 3-pointer and a series of layups.

Beauchamp was able to squeeze in a 3-pointer from the outside followed by Dillard who got a free throw and two layups.

Greenfield came back with more free throws of their own, ending at the half with a 31-30 lead.

In the third quarter, Moorman attacked with two layups along with Hinkell who made one as well. Followed by Beauchamp who was able to sink another 3 for the Blue Devils.

Unfortunately, Greenfield was still feeling the energy from the first half and countered with two 3-pointers, two layups, and two points off of a free throw to end the quarter carrying the lead, 43-39.

In the last quarter, the energy in the crowd and the teams was shining.

Drury began a comeback with a series of layups kickstarted by Moorman and then led by Dillard who scored seven layups nearly back-to-back. Only once was he interrupted, by a Jorge Bond 3-pointer.

Greenfield, however, was also maintain its lead by converting at the foul line.

Hinkell, in the last few minutes, was able to score one more free throw ending the night with a final score of 68-59 win for Greenfield.

A lot of openings in the team shined a light into what needs to be worked on for the season going forward, Racette said.

“We’ve got to cut back on the turnovers. We’re young, we’re inexperienced, but we competed. That’s a good team, and we got a long season,” he said.

Drury (2-1) heads to Mount Greylock to face the Mounties next Monday.
