CHESHIRE, Mass. – A hot start early Tuesday got the Pioneer Valley boys basketball team headed in the right direction in a 60-53 win over Hoosac Valley.
Kurt Redeker (10 points) and Brayden Thayer (18 points) each hit 3-pointers in an initial 11-2 run for the visitors. Josh Wood (12 points) hit a pair of 3s in the second quarter on his way to a 12-point night.
Pioneer Valley went up by as many as 15 in the third quarter before the Hurricanes were able to cut it to five with less than a minute to play.
But Wood went 4-for-4 at the foul line and Alex McClelland went 3-for-4 to help close out the game down the stretch.
Joey McGovern scored 18 to lead Hoosac Valley, which got 13 from Qwanell Bradley and 10 from Frank Field.
The Hurricanes (6-3) host Lee on Monday.
