NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — Louis Guillotte scored a game-high 39 points to lead the Drury boys basketball team in an 87-57 win over Lenox on Friday night.
Drury led by as many as 40 points in the fourth quarter as it improved to 3-1 this winter.
Michael Butler was the top scorer for Lenox with 21 points and five 3-pointers.
The Blue Devils started the game hot, going on a 14-0 run to begin the first quarter, with Lenox scoring its first basket with 3 minutes, 10 seconds left in the first quarter. While Lenox eventually scored nine in the quarter, Drury held a 13-point lead to start the second quarter, with Guillotte scoring 15.
Drury coach Jack Racette said this early run was crucial for gaining momentum early. He noted this being the first home game for the team was also a factor.
"This is our fourth game. That was their first game, our fourth game," Racette said. "We know what that felt like. You are just getting your feet wet.
"We got three games under our belts. And being at home helped a lot. We've been on the road for three games. It's our fourth game in seven days, you know, we really needed to take care of business at home. So I think jumping out early was a huge part."
By the end of the second quarter, Drury's lead had increased to 23, with a score of 49-26. Racette said the team was flowing well on both the offensive end of the floor.
"We know we got [Tim] Brazeau and Louis [Guillotte] down low, and I think we got to start with the inside," he said. "We got to get it in, and then when we kick it out, we got guys who can shoot it. We want to work inside out, and if they really start running at our three-point shooters, we can get it down inside to our big. We're getting a little more organized every game. We're getting a little better, but it's been a long, long couple of weeks for these guys."
Despite the strong offensive play from Drury, Racette said the team's defense was equally important. The Blue Devils had several blocks, with two coming on back-to-back plays during the second quarter.
"We've been really focusing on playing man-to-man and getting into people and not giving up a lot of threes," he said. "I thought they made some threes, and again, we want to guard the three-point line and we want to make them get it inside where we got some shot blockers."
The Blue Devils stretched the lead to 28 points by the end of the third quarter and outscored Millionaires in each individual quarter.
Drury goes on the road Monday to face Frontier. Lenox (0-1) hosts Greenfield on Monday.
