CHESHIRE, Mass. -- Izaha Stubbs missed his first chance for his thousandth point on Friday night.
He did not miss much else the rest of the way.
After misfiring on a pair of free throws in the first minute of the game, Stubbs scored in transition moments later to get to 1,001 career points and send the Hoosac Valley boys on to a 70-53 win over Phoenix Charter.
Stubbs finished with 34 points (1,033 for his career), and Shaun Kastner Jr. added 13.
But Hoosac Valley had to rally for 27 points in the fourth quarter to put this one away after leading by just three, 43-40, through three quarters.
“We played very undisciplined offense and tried to dribble through everything,” Hoosac Valley coach Dave Harte said. “I’m proud of the way we gutted it out, but if we play like that against a North team we are in trouble.
“We need more discipline, and it’s on me to demand it.”
Hoosac Valley (5-3) opens Berkshire County North Division play on Tuesday at home against Pittsfield.
