NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — The Taconic boys basketball team outmatched Drury, 86-40 on the road, Tuesday night.
It was a pretty straight forward game for Taconic (11-4), as it was able to handle the tempo of the game from the get go. It was at times a little sloppy on the offensive end for both teams, but once Taconic got in its groove it was able to run away with the game.
Isaac Percy led the way with 38 points, while Sean Harrigan added 10. Taconic opened the game up at the end of the first quarter with an 8-0 run, giving it an early 15-9 lead. In the second quarter, things only got worse for Drury (8-6) as the full court pressure started to mount. Taconic was able to turn that pressure into easy breakaway baskets widening the gap. Second chance points also played a big role in the separation as Taconic was getting multiple chances under the hoop.
“Coming in here and knowing some of the talent that is out there, we had to play with some intensity. It took us a little while to get going, but we did a good job keeping track of where Scotty [McGuire] was and that got our offense going.” Taconic head coach Bill Heaphy said.
Taconic went on to score 28 points in the quarter blowing this game completely open. Percy had 17 of his own in the quarter, most of which came from defense that turned into easy offense.
After the break the game continued to spiral out of control for Drury as it could not matchup with Taconic. The shots came few and far between for Drury and the difficulty of shots got bigger and bigger. One bright spot for Drury was Tim Brazeau who led the team in scoring with 12 points. Scott McGuire Jr. had a tough day offensively, but he still chipped in with five.
The remainder of the quarter and most of the fourth quarter went to the bench players who got some good game time minutes. Something that not only will come in hand later in the season, but also for developing players for next year.
“We don’t have the depth we had last year, but we are trying to get some guys some minutes and experience which is needed for the long haul, but I’m overall happy with the first group and the guys that came in afterwards,” Heaphy said.
Taconic will now focus on Thursday’s rematch with Wahconah, a team it lost to earlier in the season.
Drury will look to shake this one off and head into Lee, Friday night.
