SPRINGFIELD, Mass. -- Desmond Ortiz scored 24 points Thursday to lead the Baystate Academy boys basketball team to a 63-45 win over McCann Tech.
The hosts outscored the Hornets, 17-9, in the fourth quarter to pull away after McCann Tech had cut into a 38-29 half-time deficit.
"We played well for 26 minutes but had two bad three-minute stretches and can't do that against good teams," McCann Tech coach Chris Bullett said.
Keeghan Vidal scored 19 points, and Lucas Jamros and Darian Tovani added 10 and nine, respectively, for McCann Tech.
The Hornets (2-3) host Hampden Charter on Monday.
Baystate hosts Pittsfield on Saturday.
