WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — Patrick Storie Monday led the way for Mount Greylock, as the Mounties came from behind for a 63-58 win over Hoosac Valley.

 

Twelve of Pat’s 16 points came from downtown as his return from injury proved to be important for the Mounties (4-3).

 

Cam Hadley and Sean McCormack each had 13, while Sam Dils had 12. 

 

For Hoosac Valley (5-5), Keagan McGrath had 16 points and Izaha Stubbs added 13.

 

It was a great game between both of these teams as Hoosac Valley got off to a hot start, Jumping out to a 9-0 run and really controlling the game for the first quarter. Hoosac was able to knock down shots early as well as numerous points on offensive rebounds. it closed the quarter up 23-10.

 

In the second quarter, the Mounties battled back and close the gap. A few big 3s from Storie brought them within three, 35-32, going into the break. This is Pat Stories second game back this season and Coach Thistle was glad to have him back.

 

“[Storie] is our leader, a senior captain who helped take us to the Cage last year,” Thistle said. It’s a big loss, but having him back is huge, not only the 3-pointers but his mental toughness.” 

 

Storie was injured during football season and worked his way back into the lineup for limited minutes last week in a win over Pittsfield.

 

Mount Greylock eventually took its first lead of the game midway through the fourth quarter and it wouldn’t look back from there. Mount Greylock really picked it up on the defensive end, giving Hoosac a lot of trouble in the half court. Hoosac Valley had a few chances to get back in the game but was denied.

 

A pair of free throws at the end from Storie and McCormack sealed the deal. This was a big win for the Mounties giving them a second win in a row, but more importantly the ability to fight back from such a big deficit early on. 

 

“I give my coaching staff a lot of credit and certainly our kids they played hard,” Thistle said. “A lot of teams down 15 or 16 might have folded, but our kids dug down deep.”

 

Both of these teams will take on Lenox next with Hoosac playing them Thursday and Mount Greylock taking them on next Wednesday.
