Resurgent Millionaires Head to Western Mass Semis

MONSON, Mass. – After missing the Western Massachusetts tournament for more than a decade, the Lenox softball team is moving on to the regional semi-finals.

 

Evelyn Julieano Tuesday went 3-for-4 with a double at the plate and went the distance in the circle to lead the Lenox softball team to an 8-5 win over Monson in the quarter-finals of the Western Massachusetts Class D tournament.

 

“Today’s win was huge against third-seeded Monson (No. 18 in state rankings),” Lenox coach Amy Pires said. “We lost to them in our first game of the season, 7-1, and we wanted to prove to them the team they saw on April 5 was not the team they were going to see today. I’m very proud of this young team and how much fun they have playing together.”

 

After the Mustangs scored an unearned run in the bottom of the first, Julieano held them scoreless over the next three, and the Millionaires took the lead in the top of the third.

 

Grace Julieano (2-for-4, triple) singled and scored a run in that rally.

 

Lenox added two more in the fifth, one in the sixth and two in the seventh to stay ahead of the home team.

 

Hailey Armold and Gabriella Hall each drove in a pair of runs in the win.

 

Sixth-seeded Lenox (12-7) moves on to face Hopkins Academy in the regional semi-finals.
