Pittsfield Rallies Early in Win at Drury
NORTH ADAMS, Mass. -- Drury softball coach Morgan Shafer said last week that her team has been plagued by "one bad inning."
On Wednesday, they had a pair.
Pittsfield scored 11 runs in the first two innings en route to an 11-2 win over the Blue Devils at the Francis Millard Softball Fields.
Hayley Tobin went 4-for-5, and Brittney went 3-for-3 to lead the Generals' offense, which pounded out 12 hits in the first two innings.
Erin Murphy and Madison Tobin each hit a two-run single in a five-run first inning.
In the second, Tess Lyon hit a two-run single, and Madison Tobin and Giulianna Pierce each doubled.
Pierce went the distance in the circle, striking out a pair and scattering seven hits.
The Drury offense started to come alive in the sixth inning.
Cassandra Crosier led off with a single to left and moved up when McKenna Peavey singled up the middle. A wild pitch moved Crosier to third, and she came home on a groundout from Maya Howland.
In the seventh, Anna Dix led off with a shot deep to right that got away from the outfielder. She hustled around the bases for an inside-the-park home run to provide the final margin.
Howland went seven innings in the circle for Drury, scattering 11 baserunners.
Pittsfield (4-2) hosts Mount Greylock on Thursday.
Drury (1-6) hosts Wahconah on Thursday.
