Pittsfield Rolls into Second Round of Tournament
PITTSFIELD, Mass. – The PIttsfield softball team Sunday advanced in the Division 4 State Tournament following a five-inning mercy win against Hamilton-Wenham Regional.
Mia DeJesus, in her first start in state playoffs, threw five innings, allowing just four hits to get the complete-game 14-0 win.
Offensively for the Generals, Isabella MacDonald had herself a day, going 3-for-4 with three doubles.
On top of her three doubles, she registered four of her team’s 14 runs.
Nevaeh Lopez started the Generals’ scoring spree strong with a base-clearing 3-RBI triple.
Dejesus gave up a hit to begin the game but did not give up another hit till the fourth inning.
Dejesus registered four strikeouts and one walk in the circle.
“I felt that when I heard I was on the bump I was pumped,” she said. “I knew that we were all going to do this together.”
MacDonald’s leadership propelled the Generals to the Sweet 16 for the second straight year.
“Feeding off each other’s energy,” MacDonald said when asked to describe the post-season for the reigning Western Massachusetts Class B Champions.
“Well put together,” Dejesus agreed.
Coach Brian MacDonald feels very confident in his team’s chances of winning the Division 4 state championship.
“The girls have been prepared since early spring, as for improvements there’s not much of anything,” he said.
“We are ready to win the state championship and the girls certainly are ready for it.”
The third-seeded Generals (17-3) host Easthampton (10-10) in the Round of 16 on Tuesday.
