Pittsfield Rallies Past Taconic to Reach Semi-Finals
PITTSFIELD, Mass. – The Pittsfield softball team Tuesday rallied for five runs in the bottom of the fifth to erase a 7-5 deficit and went on to a 10-7 win over Taconic in the quarter-finals of the Western Massachusetts Class B Tournament.
Ella Bassi drove in the game-winning run with a single to right, and Amanda Pou closed the door on Taconic with 2 and two-thirds innings of relief to earn the win in the circle.
Neveah Lopez went 3-for-4 with a home run and a pair of RBIs, and Isabella MacDonald was 2-for-4 with a double for Pittsfield (16-3), which advances to host No. 5 Easthampton in Thursday in the regional semi-finals after the Eagles upset Monument Mountain on Tuesday.
The eighth-seeded Thunder was thinking upset after it struck for seven runs in the top of the fifth to erase a 5-0 deficit and take the lead on Tuesday.
Toni Ahoussi drove in a pair of runs to get Taconic on the board, and Ella Stodden and Kylie Duhamel each drove in a run in the rally.
Ahoussi went 2-for-3 on the day and scored twice in the fifth.
Lopez got the home half of the fifth started with a leadoff single. She then came around to score when MacDonald singled and went to second on an error to make it 7-6.
MacDonald then stole third and came home on Paxton Ebling’s sac fly to tie the game.
Gionnnah Levardi worked a two-out walk and came home on Bassi’s RBI single to give PHS an 8-7 lead. Mia Arpante later drove in a pair of runs to give Pittsfield some insurance.
Pou strick out one, walked one and allowed one earned run to earn the win in relief of Levardi, who struck out a pair and allowed four runs in 4 and one-third innings of work.
Cheyann Goddard and Maddie Harrington split time in the circle for Taconic.
The Thunder (5-12) goes to Wahconah on Wednesday to finish the regular season.
