Pittsfield Tops McCann Tech in Five Innings
PITTSFIELD, Mass. – Gionnah Levardi dominated in the circle, and the Pittsfield softball team’s offense exploded late en route to a 13-1, five-inning win over McCann Tech on Wednesday.
Levardi struck out three in a complete-game effort and went 1-for-3 with an RBI at the plate.
“We had a slow start,” Levardi said. “We didn’t really have any energy in the beginning, but once we picked it up we pulled it all together and knew we needed to get the win.”
“Just sticking together and putting it all together in the fifth Inning and realizing what we needed to do.”
The trio of Isabella MacDonald, Ella Bassi, and Sadie Aitken combined for a total of six RBIs across two innings to bring Pittsfield its fourth win of the season.
The Generals’ base running aggressiveness was key early as they recorded three stolen bases in the first three innings.
McCann struggled all around as they recorded four errors and only two hits.
Paige Meyette had a hit and scored a run for the Hornets, whose coach knew what her team would be getting in the independent game.
“I play a team like [Pittsfield] so I can see where our kids are at so when we go to the tournament or get into the State Voc tournament or something like that,” Robin Finnegan said after McCann Tech’s Tuesday win over Drury. “If you’re going to play teams that you’re going to beat up on, you’re not going to learn anything. I’d rather play competitive games and lose.”
The Hornets scored first on Wednesday and trailed by just four runs going to the fifth inning.
The momentum shifted in a big way for Pittsfield in the fifth following back-to-back hits from Kamryn Renata and Levardi.
That opened the floodgates to an eight-run, game-ending rally for the Generals.
A base-clearing three-run double by MacDonald ended the contest.
The Generals (4-2) face off against the Mount Greylock Regional Mounties on Friday, while the Hornets (2-1) host Hoosac Valley on Tuesday.
