Abderhalden, Spartans Hold off Mount Greylock
GREAT BARRINGTON, Mass. – Jade Abderhalden went 3-for-4 with a pair of doubles, and the Monument Mountain softball team held off Mount Greylock’s comeback bid in the top of the seventh to earn a 12-10 win on Tuesday.
Abderhalden drove in four runs and scored three times.
Ember Raifstanger went 3-for-4 with a double in a 14-hit attack for the Spartans.
Mount Greylock rallied with eight runs in its last at-bat, and it had a runner on base with one out after Malia Koffi’s two-run home run made it 12-10.
But Monument Mountain pitcher Andrea Paul got the next two hitters to ground out and fly out to left field to end the game.
Paul struck out a pair and allowed just five earned runs to take the win.
Mount Greylock’s Kayleigh Jaros and A.J. Pelkey split time in the circle, allowing 10 earned runs between them.
Kelsey MacHaffie went 4-for-5 with a triple, and Pelkey, Jaros and Vayda Larabee each had three hits in a 16-hit Mount Greylock attack.
The Mounties (7-10) finish the regular season at Athol on Thursday.
Monument Mountain (13-2) hosts Mount Everett on Wednesday.
