Carpenter, Tenney Homer for Spartans in Opening Win

GREAT BARRINGTON, Mass. – Lexi Carpenter and Alex Tenney each homered on Monday to lead the Monument Mountain softball team to a 7-5 win over Amherst in the Spartans’ season opener.

 

Carpenter also tripled and drove in a pair of runs for Monument Mountain, which built a 6-0 lead through four innings.

 

Sammy Ullrich also had a pair of hits in an 11- hit Spartan attack.

 

Andrea Paul earned the win in the circle, striking out eight and walking just one.

 

Monument Mountain (1-0) is scheduled to host Gateway on Thursday.
