Alfonso Powers Pittsfield in Extra Innings
PITTSFIELD, Mass. -- Mia Alfonso Monday hit a three-run homer to help the Pittsfield softball team force extra innings and then drove in the winning run in the bottom of the eighth for a 10-9 win over Mount Greylock.
The Generals went to the sixth trailing 9-3 but exploded for six runs to tie it.
The big blow came when the Mounties attempted to intentionally walk Alfonso with two runners on. She reached out and sent the first pitch over the wall.
In the eighth, Mia Arpante singled and went to second on an error. She then came home when Alfonso singled to left to end the game.
Alfonso was 5-for-5 with five runs batted in. Sophie Santos was 3-for-4 with an RBI And scored a pair of runs.
Juliana Johansen got her first varsity win in the circle, coming on in the fourth inning and allowing just one earned run in five innings of work.
Emma Newberry went 3-for-5 with a home run and three RBIs, and Jordyn Codding was 3-f4-5 with a triple and a double for Mount Greylock.
Kamryn Sweet went the distance in the circle for the Mounties, allowing just three earned runs.
Mount Greylock (7-2) hosts Hoosac Valley on Wednesday.
Pittsfield (5-3) is at Hoosac Valley on Tuesday.
