Hoosac Valley Softball Tops Wahconah
DALTON, Mass. -- The Hoosac Valley softball team earned a 9-7 win on the road Thursday afternoon against Wahconah.
The Hurricanes, coming off a tough loss to Pittsfield Wednesday afternoon, bounced tallying their first win of the season.
"We're a young team and getting Pittsfield right off the bat was a good test for us, considering they're one of the better teams in the county," Hoosac coach Mike Ameen said. "Then being able to go down to Wahconah the next day after being beat by ten runs and go out there with some energy and enthusiasm with a young team; I was very impressed."
The Hurricanes started it right in the first inning with their leadoff hitter Kali Puppolo bringing in the first run making it 1-0.
In the top of the third, Hoosac scored two more runs from Puppolo and Alyssa Pause to go ahead 3-0.
Wahconah made it a 3-2 game at the end of the third inning; Chloe Warren and Emily Jordan brought in their first two runs of the game.
Wahconah then tied it at 3-3 at the end of the fourth, where the Hurricanes were scoreless.
But it was in the fifth that the Hurricanes took an 8-3 lead. They drew in five runs from Puppolo, Pause, Erin Girard, Abby Jamros, and Sienna Witherall.
Hoosac scored one more run in the sixth as did Wahconah putting the score at 9-4.
In the bottom of the seventh Wahconah came out and put up three runs, but Hoosac was able to hold them at that for the win.
"We got ahead early and we were able to hold them off," Ahmeen said. "They bounced back nicely and did a nice job."
Wahconah and Hoosac will go at it again Saturday afternoon at 1 p.m. At Russell Field in Adams.
