Game-Ending Stop Sends Taconic Softball to Post-Season
PITTSFIELD, Mass. -- A big defensive play in the top of the seventh sealed a 3-2 win and a berth in the Western Massachusetts tournament for the Taconic softball team on Wednesday.
Mary Lee struck out six and walked none to earn the one-run win over Mount Greylock as Taconic improved to 10-8 with two games left to play.
With two out in the seventh, Mount Greylock had a runner on first when Jordyn Codding hit a ball down the left field line.
Payton O'Connell chased it down and got the throw in to Taea Bramer, who relayed to catcher Jenyka Ostellino who made the tag to stop the potential tying run and end the game.
Addison Lyon went 2-for-3 at the plate, and Kiki Carrigan had a double for Taconic, which got a 1-for-2 day from Anna Bongini.
Mount Greylock pitcher Lily Lessieur struck out a pair in a complete-game effort in the circle.
Taconic hosts Pittsfield on Thursday.
Mount Greylock (8-8) goes to Mount Everett on Sunday.
