Goewey Grand, Eagles Win Fourth Straight
SHEFFIELD, Mass. – Emma Goewey went 4-for-5 with a home run and four RBIs Friday to lead the Mount Everett softball team to a 16-6 win over Springfield Central.
The Eagles took a 6-0 lead in the second and put the game away with a seven-run sixth that included Goewey’s grand slam to take a 10-run lead.
Hudah Ngoy Nkulu went 2-for-3 with a pair of RBIs, a pair of walks and a stole base.
Tonilyn Smith doubled and scored three times.
Julia Devoti earned the win in the circle, striking out eight in a complete-game effort.
Mount Everett (9-11) did all it could do in the last week of the season, winning three times to continue a four-game winning streak.
Now it must wait to see how the rest of the commonwealth’s Division 5 softball teams do.
With a sub-.500 record, the Eagles have to finish in the top 32 in the 79-team division to reach next week’s state tournament.
Based on the scores reported to the MIAA through Thursday night, Mount Everett was ranked 33rd in the division, 6-10,000ths of a point behind No. 32 Ware.
