SHEFFIELD, Mass. – Five different players had three hits apiece for the Mount Everett softball team Thursday as it earned its first win of the year, a 12-3 victory over McCann Tech.

Hudah Ngoy Nkulu went 3-for-5 with a pair of doubles and three runs batted in to lead the 18-hit attack.

Mariah Broderick, Lexi Tomascak, Emma Goewey and Julia Devoti each had three hits.

“I was proud of our approach today at the plate by making contact, putting the ball in play and being aggressive on the basepaths,” Mount Everett coach Joshua King said. ”We had a big inning in the third, where we plated seven runs that broke open a close game. And our girls were making the plays today.

“I give the girls a lot of credit on both sides because neither team has won a game this year and the girls competed on our side and McCann's.”

Jaelyn Deeley went 2-for-3 and scored a pair of runs for the Hornets, who got a double and an RBI from Hannah Tatro.

Tatro struck out five and walked none in the circle for the Hornets.

Mariah Broderick struck out five to earn the win for Mount Everett (1-6), which hosts Drury on Tuesday.

McCann Tech (0-4) hosts Ware on Monday.
