DALTON, Mass. -- Faith Angell used her big day at the plate to spark a bigger performance in the circle on Thursday night.

Angell, who went 3-for-4 with an RBI as a hitter, held Wahconah without a hit for 10 straight at-bats as Mount Everett rallied for a 9-6 win at Pine Grove Park.

She bounced back after a four-run third inning that allowed the hosts to take a 5-3 lead and helped the Eagles (8-7) win for the third time in four games and avenge a 6-1 loss in Sheffield.

“My team picked me up, and we got up to bat, and I was hitting, and that definitely helped,” Angell said. “I’ve been in a slump, and I was like 4-for-4 tonight, and that was good. So I came in positive with every at-bat, and my team was backing me up every pitch, every play.

“They were always there. It helped a lot.”

Wahconah went ahead by three runs, 6-3, after Abby Wells blasted a one-out triple to center field and scored on a Morgan Marauszwski sacrifice bunt in the fourth.

But Angell got the next hitter to fly out to right field and proceeded to sit down the final nine batters she faced, in order.

Meanwhile, Mount Everett rallied for a pair of runs in the top of the fifth to get within 6-5 and four runs in the sixth to take the lead for good.

In the fifth, Marion Devoti singled, moved up on a ground ball, went to third on Angell’s infield single and scored on a passed ball. Tori Seward, who walked, eventually scored on a wild pitch.

In the sixth, Gwendolyn Carpenter was hit by a pitch with one out to spark the winning rally.

Jaclyn Derwitsch, Madison Ullrich, Devoti and Sarah Beckwith followed with consecutive singles. Devoti singled to center to bring home Derwitsch with the go-ahead run. Beckwith drove the ball to left to bring home a pair and make it 9-6.

The nine runs allowed by Wahconah (11-5) was a season high. The previous high was seven, which happened twice during a three-game losing streak back in April.

Prior to Thursday night, Wells had allowed just eight runs in Wahconah’s last seven -- all wins.
“We talked to them before the game, and I’m trying to keep it loose,” Mount Everett coach Kurt DeGrenier said. “We’ve had a difficult season. We’ve lost some close games. We’ve been winning games and then we kind of fall apart with errors.

“It’s on the girls. They work hard. I think they can compete for a Western Mass title if they play like they did tonight. That was a complete team effort. They saw the ball well, they were putting line drives together, they were running the bases well, the defense played well.

“Great team effort.”

Mount Everett had 12 hits combined. Devoti went 4-for-4and scored three times.

Wahconah got a pair of hits from Jess Warren.

Wahconah travels to face Westfield on Monday.

Mount Everett (8-7) is at Taconic on Monday.
