Mount Everett Edges Lenox
SHEFFIELD, Mass. – Tonilynn Smith doubled and drove in a pair of runs Saturday to lead the Mount Everett softball team to a 5-3 win over Lenox.
The Eagles made the most of just two base hits and took advantage of a couple of Lenox errors to generate two unearned runs against Millionaires pitcher Evelyn Julieano, who struck out 10.
Julia Devoti earned the win in the circle for Mount Everett, striking out five, walking none and scattering seven hits.
The Eagles jumped on top early with three runs in the bottom of the first.
Devoti and Makayla Carpenter got things started by each drawing a walk. Then, with two out, Meg Loring walked to load the bases.
Steuernagle scored from third on a pitch that got to the backstop for the game’s first run, and Smith doubled to center field to drive in a pair and make it 3-0.
Lenox got a pair of runs back in the second when Cassidy Flynn hit a two-run single.
But Mount Everett stretched its advantage in the fourth.
Emily Gilmore drew a walk and moved up on a passed ball before Devoti reached on a two-base error that sent Gilmore home. Emily Steuernagle then drove in Devoti with a single ot make it 5-2.
Amber Arseneau scored on a flyball out in the top of the sixth, and Devoti worked a 1-2-3 seventh to end the game.
Eveilyn Julieano and Flynn each had a pair of hits for Lenox.
The Millionaires (7-8) go to Gateway on Sunday to close the regular season.
Mount Everett (6-8) is at top-seeded Turners Falls in the quarter-finals of the Western Massachusetts Class D Quarter-Finals on a date to be announced.
