SHEFFIELD, Mass. – Shaylee Lawson hit an infield single to drive in Courtney Kanelos in the top of the seventh to give the McCann Tech softball team a 1-0 win at Mount Everett on Wednesday.

Kanelos reached on a double and went to third on Miranda Ranzoni’s single to set the stage for Lawson’s game-winning hit.

In the bottom of the seventh, Emma Lemire retired the side in order, getting the final out on a swinging strike to secure her complete-game win.

Lemire struck out five and walked two while allowing two hits.

Each of the Hornets’ starters had one hit off Eagles pitcher Julia Devoti, but she was able to strand most of those base-runners to keep it scoreless.

“Both pitchers did a great job in the circle and limited the amount of hits each team got today,” Mount Everett coach Joshua King said. “McCann did a great job of baserunning in the seventh and was able to claw a run across.

“For us, I was happy with the fielding today as we limited the number of mental mistakes out there and really did play much better in the field. At the plate we're just getting in our own heads and hurting ourselves with approach at the plate. When we made solid contact today it just went to a player who made a great play.”

Emily Steuernagle and Megan Loring each had a hit for Mount Everett (2-5), which goes to Chicopee on Thursday.

McCann Tech (5-3) is at Springfield International Charter on Friday.
