Haring, Hornets Lose Pitchers' Duel with Granby

GRANBY, Mass. -- Katlyn Haring pitched one of her best games of the season on Monday. Unfortunately for her and the McCann Tech softball team, though, it came in a loss.

Granby only collected two hits off of Haring the entire game, but a two-run first inning was all the scoring the Rams would need to earn a 2-0 victory at home. Granby starter Tesse Cote was equally good, scattering four Hornets' hits throughout the game and holding them off the scoreboard for a full seven innings.

The Rams took control in the first inning by capitalizing on a McCann error in the outfield. Robin Finnegan's team played a good game on defense, only making two miscues in the fields, but the first-inning error proved costly when Haring gave up a triple in the same frame. The Rams, meanwhile, played error-free ball the entire game.

"It was a very well-played defensive game on both sides," Finnegan said. "Cassie Field played outstanding at third base. She had seven putouts. Tesse Cote pitched a great game, and Granby's defense was spectacular. However, we need to start scoring some runs against the better pitchers we face and a couple of mistakes wouldn't matter."

Haring, Field, Ashley Alibozek and Katie Hancock all collected hits for the Hornets, who fell to 6-4 with Monday's loss. McCann will try to regroup Thursday, when it hosts Central at 4 p.m.
