Wildcats' Offense Overwhelms Hornets
LEE, Mass — Three costly errors allowed the Lee softball team to get their bats going against McCann Tech on Thursday, resulting in a 9-2 home win for the Wildcats.Hornets' pitcher Erika Ziemba allowed nine runs on the day but only four were earned. The extra base runners gave Lee more opportunities and the hosts capitalized on them by smacking five extra-base hits. Vanessa Castillo roped a triple for Wildcats, while Ashley Sommerville surrendered just two earned runs on nine hits to earn the win. She struck out eight batters without a walk to give Lee its first win of the year.
Ziemba had another good day at the plate, though, hitting a pair of doubles to go with one RBI. Sophomore Jordan Prevey also went 3 for 4 with three singles for McCann, which also got two hits and an RBI out of senior Cassie Field.
The Hornets (0-2) next take on Smith Academy in a road game at 4 p.m. on Tuesday.
