Hornets Start Strong with Win Over Easthampton
EASTHAMPTON -- It was a good start for the McCann softball team on Thursday night, as the Hornets went on the road to Easthampton and came away with a 5-4 win in the season opener for both teams.
Junior Jaime LeTourneau hit a key RBI double in the second inning, helping Robin Finnegan's club jump out to a 4-1 lead. Easthampton rallied to tie the game with two runs in the third inning and one run in the fourth, but the Hornets quickly answered by scoring the game-deciding run in the top of the fifth inning.
LeTourneau finished with one run scored and two RBI, while junior Ashley Alibozek scored a run and had two hits on the afternoon for McCann. Senior Katlyn Haring picked up her first win of the season in the circle, allowing four earned runs with four strikeouts and zero walks.
"I was very pleased with our effort and our defense," Finnegan said. "Shortstop Katie Hancock played outstanding today. I am very excited about this year's team and hope to make some noise around the league. It was a great win to get the season started."
The Hornets are now off until Tuesday, when they host Smith Academy at 4 p.m.
