NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — Olivia Perry hit Drury's first home run of the season for three RBIs as the Blue Devils beat McCann Tech, 18-2.

Perry's home run was one of four runs the Blue Devils scored in the top of the first inning.

Brooke Bishop also played well for the Blue Devils, going 5-for-5 in the game with four RBIs.

Drury coach Michelle Darling said she was proud of the entire team and said everyone hit exceptionally well throughout the game. While both teams went hitless in the second, the Blue Devils scored two more runs in the third inning and three in the fourth.

"I'm proud," she said. "We worked really hard in practice, just hitting where the ball was and picking it up off the pitcher's hit."

McCann scored both of its two runs in the fourth inning and had the bases loaded before Drury pitcher Danielle Harnick got her third out of the inning. Harnick played all seven innings and struck out 13 batters.

Darling said she was happy the team stayed composed in such a situation and did not let up any more runs.

"The one thing I do tell them a lot is to believe in themselves and move in," she said. "They're really dedicated to fielding. They practice all the time with the bases loaded at practice. I think that helps calm them down."

Harnick held McCann scoreless for the remainder of the game, while the team scored a combined four runs in innings five and six. Drury finished the game by scoring five runs in the seventh inning.

Lauren Mroz doubled for the Hornets, who got two hits from Emily Raschdorf.

“We had a few hits and scored, so steps in the right direction,” McCan Tech coach Robin Finnegan said. “Nora Moser pitched a decent game, but too many miscues in the field against a good hitting Drury squad.”

With the win, Drury has a 3-1 record on the season and will travel to play Ware at 4 p.m. on Wednesday. McCann starts the season with an 0-3 record and will travel to Mount Everett at 1 p.m. on Thursday.
